Welcome to the Serious Play Awards Judge Application!
Welcome and thank you for your interest in becoming a judge for the 2026 Serious Play Awards. Your participation is crucial to the success of this program, which highlights excellence in the field of serious and learning games. Judges who complete all assigned evaluations will receive complimentary registration for the conference. We strive to align judges with their areas of interest and expertise as much as possible.
Our global awards program has two moments of celebration each year. We will announce Sector Award winners in Serious Play Europe (June), and Student & Special Award winners in Serious Play North America (August), including Game of the Year. Three finalists and one winner will be recognized per category.
Judging Experience
Judging at our award programs is both enjoyable and enlightening. It offers exposure to new ideas and can broaden your knowledge through the innovative approaches of participants. It's an opportunity to contribute to the community, as Serious Play is committed to sharing experiences and aiding game designers in their learning journey. Finally, entrants highly value the feedback provided by judges! You can help make a difference and have fun along the way!
Application Process
- The first step involves filling out a form to gather information that will assist us in assigning entries that best match your expertise.
- The second step is to confirm your availability for judging. Both forms are essential and need to be completed.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants can be from diverse backgrounds, including higher education, game development, and training.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in designing and delivering serious/learning games or programs (digital, AR/VR, tabletop).
Judging Schedule
- Professional Digital Game Entries: March to May.
- Professional Tabletop/Board Game Entries: March to July. Details to follow
- NEW - Finalist Round with select Judges in May
- Student Digital Entries: June and early July
- Student Tabletop/Board Entries: Evaluated on-site a day before the North American conference
Technical Requirements for Digital Game Judges
Assignments are based on the technology available to the judge, which may include PCs (Windows/Mac), mobile devices (iOS/Android), or Virtual Reality (MetaQuest or HTC).
A reliable internet connection is required, and for VR categories, access to a VR headset is necessary.
NOTE: If you plan to access entries via a corporate or private network, please be sure you have the appropriate rights to download and play digital entries as needed.
