The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges (ASCCC) is calling for nominations for one of the two faculty seats on the California Community Colleges Board of Governors.

Two faculty members serve on the Board of Governors for staggered two-year terms. Each year, the ASCCC calls for nominations for one of these two faculty seats. The Governor of California ultimately makes these faculty appointments from a list of recommendations put forward by the ASCCC.

We seek your assistance in identifying outstanding faculty members who are knowledgeable about the issues facing faculty and other stakeholders in the community college system. The ASCCC has broad nomination criteria to encourage leaders with a variety of experiences to consider applying for this position. The full criteria and application are linked below.

In addition to the full criteria, we are seeking candidates who are articulate and capable of presenting a reasoned argument on issues of educational policy, as well as knowledgeable about statewide educational issues. Any college or district academic senate or ASCCC Board of Directors member may nominate a faculty member. Thus, it is important that all faculty members are aware of this opportunity to serve.

Candidates for nomination should submit:
1. an online application;
2. a statement of intent on why the nominee would be an effective member of the Board of Governors;
3. and a current resume outlining relevant professional activities. 

Additionally, the nominee is strongly encouraged to include a letter of endorsement from the faculty member's local academic senate. Previously nominated faculty members who would like to be reconsidered are asked to please submit a new online application, along with the required submission materials.

The deadline to apply is June 30, 2026, by 11:59 p.m. Pacific, and all original materials must be received by this time.

Nominees will be selected and interviewed virtually by the ASCCC Board of Directors at its meeting on September 18-19, 2026. All candidates will be notified of the outcome of their nomination.
